The Case for Pre-Owned
Not everyone needs a brand new piano, and not everyone has the budget for one. A quality pre-owned instrument can be an excellent choice, offering beautiful tone and reliable performance at a fraction of the cost of new. To help you decide, we’ve written a detailed comparison of new vs secondhand pianos.
The key is finding one that’s been properly assessed and prepared. That’s where we come in.

Our Quality Promise
Every pre-owned piano in our showroom has been through the same rigorous process:
Assessment — James personally inspects each instrument, checking the soundboard, bridges, pinblock, action, and cabinet. Many pianos don’t make it past this stage.
Preparation — Pianos that meet our standards are cleaned inside and out, have their actions regulated and adjusted, and are tuned to concert pitch.
Testing — Before going on display, each piano is played and tested to ensure it performs as it should.
We won’t sell you a piano that we wouldn’t be happy to have in our own homes.
Restored Vintage Pianos
There’s something special about a beautifully restored vintage piano. Instruments from makers like Steinbach, Kemble, and Knight—often built 50 or more years ago—were made to last generations.
When properly restored, these pianos offer a character and warmth that’s hard to find in modern instruments. The quality of materials and craftsmanship from this era was exceptional.

What to Expect When You Visit
Our pre-owned selection changes regularly as instruments come in and sell. At any time, we typically have 2-3 pre-owned pianos on display alongside our new stock.
When you visit, we’ll be honest about what each instrument can and can’t do. We’ll explain its history where we know it, point out any quirks, and help you understand whether it’s right for your needs.
No sales pressure, just straightforward advice from people who love pianos.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are pre-owned pianos reliable?
When properly inspected and maintained, pre-owned pianos can give decades of excellent service. We only sell instruments that meet our quality standards, and every piano is prepared by our qualified technician before sale.
How do you source your pre-owned pianos?
We receive pianos from trade-ins when customers upgrade, from house clearances and estates, and occasionally from other trusted dealers. We're selective about what we take on—many pianos don't make the grade.
Do pre-owned pianos come with a warranty?
We offer a 12-month warranty on all pre-owned pianos covering major mechanical issues. This gives you peace of mind while allowing us to offer excellent value.
What's the difference between pre-owned and restored?
A pre-owned piano has been cleaned, tuned, and had minor adjustments. A restored piano has undergone more extensive work—potentially including new strings, hammers, or cabinet refinishing—to bring it back to its best.
Can I trade in my digital keyboard?
We generally only accept acoustic pianos for trade-in, as we specialise in acoustic instruments. However, feel free to ask—we're always happy to discuss your situation.
